All children are encouraged to be healthy and active.  They are given the opportunity to participate in a range of team games and sports such as football, netball, kwik cricket, athletics and dance.  Swimming is a regular weekly lesson for children in Year 3 and as they move into Year 4.  This takes place with qualified instructors at Hindley Baths.   Each child has a minimum of 2 hours per week on sports, PE and Dance, with opportunities to take part in out of school activities.  These activities are run by school, parents/carers with appropriate qualifications and through links with independent teams.

The school has excellent facilities in a well-equipped school hall, hard and soft playing surface and large grass area for sport.  All teachers are qualified through their general training to teach primary games and sports, and this is supplimented by their professional development.  All risk assessments are undertaken as appropriate to the nature of the sporting activity.

The school  is very proud of the links with local clubs both professional and amateur.  This is an opportunity for our children to demonstrate their gifts, talents and skills.  This also includes children who have been selected to represent their town or county.  All out of school achievements are celebrated with the whole school.

To participate safely in PE, children will need the following items for their kit, ideally the School PE Kit (or alternatively navy shorts and white t-shirt), pumps, football boots and a tracksuit for outdoors.  Details are available on request from the office.  As a matter of health and safety, we would ask that parents/carers support us in not having their children's ears, noses etc, pierced during term-time.  This causes a hazard for the child as all items of jewellery must be removed for safety reasons during swimming, PE and games lessons.
